Introducing Old Decos and Homers (ODAH)

If you've been swapping booklets for some time, you know that these things often take years to come back to they owner (when they do come back...). Fortunately, there's an active community of swappers online, mainly on Yahoo Groups, who helps completing and returning booklets who've been travelling for too long already. One of these groups is  Old_Decos_And_Homers . As you can guess, this group was created to rescue Decos which either at least 3 year old, or need one last signer before being returned. The way it works is very simple: When a member gets a deco that fits the above criteria, she enters it in the group's database and post a message to the whole group. The members who are interested in signing the deco can either email the person who offer it directly, or sign in the database. Then the deco get passed on - always within the group. And each person who gets it write in the database when she gets it, to whom she sends it next, and when. All tha...

Stamps Order

Since I took my job, I found it much more convenient to order stamps online, weight them at home (with an electronic kitchen scale - it's more better than mechanical ones) and mail them. Above you can see a pic of the latest set I've ordered: On top: " Marie Curie " stamps. These were released to celebrate 2011 as the international year of chemistry. below: the " Post images from France " booklet. those stamps show different famous sites of France and are made for letters up to 20g to be sent worldwide. The stamps with the leaves are simply about forests . To be frank, I have no clue if they were released on a special occasion or not. And all the others are Marianne stamps of different values: I usually use them as an addition to the beautiful themed ones, to reach the right amount.

What are Fbs, decos, slams, etc...

But not everybody knows what I mean by that. In the letter-writing and swapping world, Booklets are pieces of paper which are stapeled together. It then looks like a small booklet made for one person (the owner) by another person (maker). The booklet is passed on, from one penpal to another. And the last signer has to send it back to the owner. The various types Here is a biref description of the main categories, but there are often new ones popping up! Friendship Books  (FBs): this is the most simple kind. As a signer, you just have to sign with your address and, if you like, some info on what you're looking for (penpal, s...

One of my fondest memory

You can now find this article (and it's translation into French) on the website: [EN]  http://samslettersandcrafts.com/en/letter-writing/letterwriting-news/17-one-of-my-fondest-memory [FR] http://samslettersandcrafts.com/fr/correspondance/infos-correspondance/18-one-of-my-fondest-memory-2 ********** Have you ever had a moment where you knew you had found more than someone to write, but a REAL friend? As I've been writing letters since I was a teenage, I have several stories about that. Here's one of my faves. It was sometime in the 90s. I was writing letters to an American girl with whom I was sharing an interest for fashion and supermodels. One day, in a letter, she told me she was bisexual and she seemed really scared to admit it. I replied normally to her letter, making it clear that it wasn't a problem for me. I also told her that I was happy she decided to talk about something so intimate, that it must have been difficult for her... As you can i...

Welcome to my Letters and craft blog!

Thank you for stopping by! This blog is the follow-up to  Le Blog de Samgunsjovirow ... Yes, that's a French blog. I created it last year with the hope of meeting other French fans of deco, booklet making, home deco and all things creative. But first it wasn't pretty much alive and even once I started to update it regularly, it didn't bring much more audience. So after discussing with a few Facebook friends, I was encouraged to start a blog in English to share my passion(s) with as many and as different people as possible! I don't forget my French friends, though. I will still post my creations and articles in french...but mostly on Facebook and on a French-speaking forum (will tell you which one I chose later). So what will you find in this blog? Anecdotes about letter writing, photos of my various creations, thoughts on the world of swapping, step-by-step guide to homemade stuff... But now let me ask YOU a question. What do you expect, what would you like to see...
